EDUCATION: A’IBOM SPEAKER CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION IN URUAN

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has called for immediate intervention in Community Secondary Commercial School, Ifiayong Usuk, and Government Primary School, Mbiakong, in Uruan Local Government Area.

The Speaker made the call on Wednesday when he led the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sustainable Development, Ntufan Elijah Iyak, and Special Assistant on Inter-Ministerial and Direct Labour, Mr. Sampson Idiong, to the schools for evaluation and intervention.

He said the level of infrastructural decay in the schools has not just hampered learning and extracurricular activities, but has posed serious threat to the lives of students, pupils and their teachers.

Rt. Hon. Bassey appealed agencies of government responsible for infrastructural development in the state, specifically within the education sector, to be apt in their response to the plights of the people of Uruan.

In his remarks, the Vice Principal (Academy) of Community Secondary Commercial School, Mr Victor Okon, who conducted the team round the school, said the situation, if not handle immediately, might affect the performance of the students in the forthcoming West African Examination.

He also appealed for immediate intervention in the schools.
