Chairman of Ethical and Attitudinal Re-Orientation Commission (EARCOM), Dr Dorothy Thompson, has applauded the Akwa Ibom Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the landslide victory at the just concluded Local Government Polls.

A statement by the EARCOM Chairman said “on behalf of the Board and Management of EARCOM, I congratulate Governor Udom Emmanuel and the PDP family for the landslide victory at the LG polls. It is crystal clear that the electoral value of Mr. Integrity, Governor Udom Emmanuel, is unmistakable.”

Dr Thompson, who voted at Unit-1, Ward-1, Upenekang, Ibeno Local Government Area, said the fact that all the people of Ibeno, vis-à-vis Akwa Ibom State came out to vote is most commendable, adding that the security personnel deserve congratulations for the secured atmosphere in which the elections were done.

She hailed Governor Udom Emmanuel for fulfilling the promise he made to the people of the state “that credible and peaceful local government elections will be conducted in the state”, maintaining that “the gesture was rare and a clear proof that the elections were credible, free and fair and in conformity with international best practices.”

The EARCOM  Chairman added that the Governor’s unprecedented achievements, despite the nation’s daunting economic challenges and his commitment to the tenets of inclusiveness and participatory democracy, PDP’s vigorous campaigns in all the nooks and crannies of the state, among others, saw to the landslide victory of the party at the polls.

Dr Thompson frowned at the antics of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) whom, she said have failed in their attempts to discredit the exercise, advising them to display a sense of maturity and appreciate the fact that the present administration is peaceful and extremely focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The EARCOM Chairman, who also commended the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC), maintained that the PDP’s landslide victory at the polls was not a surprise, because the party is united, strong, formidable and on ground in Akwa Ibom State.
