… Inaugurates World-class 300 bed Isolation Centre within one month

In his avowed determination to expand the frontiers of containment measures against the Novel CoronaVirus Pandemic, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, today, inaugurated a-300 bed space International Centre for Disease Control and Isolation Center at Methodist General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, Uruan LGA.
The State-of-the-art facility situates within the premises of the Methodist General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, a-five minutes drive to and from the Victor Attah International Airport.
The world-class centre which has call rooms for doctors, waiting bay, Sophisticated wards, Clinical Laboratory and virology laboratories, doctors’ quarters, points of decontamination and fumigation of medical personnel when they are through with their works, their dressing and undressing rooms, canteen and other luxurious amenities for both the patients and medical team was supervised by the State Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen and his team. It was completed within six weeks. The facility will serve as an addition to two other isolation centres at Ikot Ekpene and Itu LGAs.
Addressing the mammoth crowd; all with their facemasks, who turned up for the inauguration, the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, noted that his government was adopting a holistic approach to winning the pandemic.
Accompanied by his wife, Dr (Mrs) Martha Emmanuel, the deputy Governor, Obong Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt Hon Aniekan Bassey and members of the State Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the PDP, Obong Paul Ekpo, present and former Members of the National Assembly, present and former members of the the State Executive Council, fathers of faith, the traditional institution and other Stakeholders, the Governor announced that the centre will be manned by highly skilled health workers, trained in infection prevention and control as well as COVID-19 case management.
Earlier, the Chief Supervisor of the project and State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, thanked the youths of Uruan LGA for the cooperation and support while the construction work lasted.
He specifically lauded the governor for his ingenuity, saying, with the opening of the isolation centre, the State was ready to deal with any emergency involving coronavirus and other infectious diseases.
Good will messages were presented by stakeholders in the health sector, political heavyweight and royal fathers.
Speaker after speaker described Governor Udom Emmanuel as being a God-fearing leader, bridge builder, peace-maker, finance management expert, consummate politician and visionary leader remained undaunted and committed to the speedy actualization of his administration’s well-thought-out programmes for the people of the state.
