“We must support our leaders to make them succeed. Their success is our success. There is nobody here who does not want peace, progress and development. Stressing further, the Commissioner said “we should also support our dear Senator, the Distinguished Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio. As Senator representing the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, we always look forward to benefitting from his representation. Given the nature of the politics played in Abuja, we need to give him maximum support and always pray for him.”

Mr. Essien praised the courage of the founding fathers of the Club which was established in 1978, and the present leaders of the Club for their foresight in creating a melting point of friendship and patriotic citizenry which has consolidated in no small measures to make the society peaceful.

He urged members of the Club to “continue in that spirit,” saying the Club should go beyond leisure, recreation and sports to “carry out other activities like education promotion; pay school fees and give scholarship to indigent students.

Responding, President of the Club, Mr. Umo Amadu, said the Club was happy to have the Commissioner visit them without notice.

“This shows that the Commissioner is a man with the love of the people at heart. We shall heed your call to support Governor Udom Emmanuel. We have no choice if we want to see our state progress. We must support our leaders. We will also support our dear Senator and other leaders in the Senatorial District,” he said.
