ANTI-GRAFT FIGHT NOT TARGETED AT INDIVIDUALS, BUHARI TELLS JONATHAN

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday denied harassing the family of former President Goodluck Jonathan or any other persons in the Federal Government’s fight against corruption, as claimed by the former president.
The President said anybody who did not have skeleton in his or her cupboard had nothing to fear about the ongoing anti-graft war. Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, was reacting to reports credited to Jonathan in a book “Against The Run of Play,” written by Olusegun Adeniyi, that his family was being harassed by the present government.
According to Buhari, given the scale of revelations and recoveries so far by the anti-corruption agencies, it was obvious that corruption had “an uninhibited course during our recent past.”
He said: “‎we make bold to state unequivocally that President Buhari harasses nobody, he merely allows the law to take its course. Anybody who feels aggrieved is free to approach the courts to seek redress or justice.
According to Adesina, “Buhari firmly believes that national interest must always be placed above personal interest, no matter who is involved.”Meanwhile, Arewa chieftain, Senator Abubakar Girei has called on the former president to stop shifting blames over his electoral defeat in 2015 presidential race, saying that the ex-president was the architect of his own political downfall.
The senator, who represented Adamawa Central Senatorial zone between 1999 to 2003 in the National Assembly under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), explained that it was uncharitable of former Jonathan to blame his defeat on local and international leaders who saw through his political mediocrity and decided to ditch him in the interest of Nigeria and their respective countries.
