Akwa Ibom State Government has raised alarm over the spate of activities by illegal land developers and traders in the state.
This was made known through a press statement by the Ministry of Land and Town Planning.
The statement read “The attention of Ministry of Lands and Town Planning has been drawn to unauthorized markets littered over Uyo Capital City. Government frowns at this indecent and risky development as it violates the goal of ensuring that projects are cited in conducive environment and thereby serving the people of the state better.”
“The Ministry of Lands and Town Planning is therefore set to demolish as well as seize structures set up in these locations. This is for the information of the sellers as well as the General Public,” the statement stated.
The statement concluded by saying, “For the avoidance of doubt, the unauthorized markets and their locations are Ikpa Road/Udoette Street, Emco Lane between Nwaniba/Uruan Street, Nung Oku along Aka-Nung Udoe Road, Aka Junction by African Church,Ikot Ekpene Road by the University Fence, By-pass Walkway by the Qua Oboe Church, Etuk Street by Aka Road, Enen-Afaha Street by Ikot Ekpene Road, Ikot Oku Ikono Junction, Abak Road/Afaha Offot – (Old Market), Market along Urua Ekpa Road/Uyo Itu Highway, Mbiabong Udo Owot Road, Idoro Road by Goodluck Jonathan Boulevard, and Itam Junction Market.”
