In line with the vision of the present Administration to ensure that Akwa Ibom State competes favourably with other Advanced Countries in the area of Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, a Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency has been inaugurated by the State Government.

Inauguring the Committee on Thursday, in the conference room of his office, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem said the committee is expected to ensure that the project which is the laudable vision of Governor Udom Emmanuel in ensuring that staple foods are available in sufficient quantity in the state, is actualized.

Dr. Ekuwem who noted that the Governor attaches a lot of importance to the committee, Stated that the committee which is to be driven by productive results, is expected by the Governor to discharge its responsibility creditably to be the best performing Committee.

The State Chief Scribe advised members of the Committee to shun ego and pride, but work assiduously to realize the Committee’s terms of reference which according to him, will be beneficial to the generality of Akwa Ibom People.

The Eight-member Technical Committee has Prof. Edet Udoh as Chairman, while Barr. Nkoyo Amana serves as Secretary.

Members of the committee include the Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Edet, Pastor Umo Eno and Prof. (Mrs.) Isongesit Solomon.

Others are Dr. Edna Akpan, Dr. Sunday Akpan and Mr. Gabriel Nkanang.

Responding on behalf of the members of the Committee, the Chairman, Prof. Edet Udoh expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel for finding them worthy to serve the State in that capacity.

Prof. Udoh stated that as the Pioneer Chairman of the Technical Committee on Agriculture and Food Sufficiency, he had succeeded in bringing down prices of staple foods in the state and gave the assurance that the new committee will work relentlessly to surpass that landmark achievement and justify the confidence reposed in them in the course of discharging their assigned responsibility.

The inauguration was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Imo Inyang and some Management Staff of the SSG’s Office.
