The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources, has placed ban on unlawful peddling of cooking gas, otherwise known as Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), at unauthorized locations in the state.

In a Public Announcement issued on December 2, 2019 and signed by the Hon. Commissioner, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson, the state ministry expressed concern over the proliferation of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) peddling outlets at unauthorized locations in the state, saying “These vendors site their outlets near residential buildings, schools and markets without considering the highly inflammable nature of the product and the danger it poses to lives, property and the environment.

“In view of the above, all dealers on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in Akwa Ibom State are hereby advised to relocate the product from unauthorized locations. Failure to adhere to this directive will lead to sanctions, including impoundment of their products and sealing off of affected premises.”

The document called on all affected dealers to visit Room 209 in the above ministry at Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat Complex, Uyo for necessary information.

On a similar note, the state Ministry of Environment and Petroleum Resources has reminded the general public that the ban on pasting of posters, banners or any material on roundabouts, fences, kerbs and other sensitive locations in Uyo Metropolis and other parts of Akwa Ibom State is still in force.

According to a release issued and signed by the Hon. Commissioner, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ekong Sampson, “Members of the public are advised to adhere strictly to this prohibition as defaulters will be sanctioned accordingly.”

It therefore called on the citizenry to join hands to keep the state clean.
