As part of his activities to reach out and connect with Akwa Ibom people at the grassroot, particularly those in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, again, on Saturday, January 20, 2017, commissioned over 15 Constituency Projects initiated and completed by him across the Local Government Areas that made up the district.
At the event which started last Saturday with the commissioning of solar powered Boreholes, Classroom blocks, Market Stalls among others in Ikono, Ini, Ikot Ekpene and Abak Local Government Areas, Senator Akpabio expressed pleasant surprise at the turnout of the indigenes, maintaining that their show of appreciation will certainly earn them more democratic dividends and constituency projects.
He expressed his gratitude to the people of his constituency for their sustained unflinching support for him, adding that he will continue to draw more federal government projects to the areas.
In their separate remarks during the commissioning ceremony, Chairmen of Obot Akara, Etim Ekpo, and Oruk Anam Local Government Areas, Etubom Anietie Udoh, Hon Udeme Eduo and Prince Ubong Idiong, eulogized the Senator for giving the people of the district and Akwa Ibom State excellent representation at the Red Chambers, saying they were very proud to have him represent them in that capacity.
The Chairmen, among other stakeholders who spoke during the ceremony, applauded the Senator for the sustainable projects and promised to reciprocate the kind gesture in 2019 through their votes.
For Barrister Patrick Umoh, a native of Ikot Abia in Obot Akara, it was a “step in the right direction. An indelible investment in the future of our sons and daughters through education and the people of my community are highly indebted. The excitement is all over their faces.”
Little wonder a former member of the State House of Assembly, who represented Ukanafun State Constituency, Elder Aniekan Akpan, and a former Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Mrs. Gloria Useh, summed it up by saying “the projects are from a man of excellence and the people cannot get anything but the best.”
Among the projects commissioned were 3-Classroom Blocks at FIDA Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Abia (Obot Akara); Government Primary School, Utu Etim Ekpo (Etim Ekpo); Government Primary School, Obio Ibiet Esa (Etim Ekpo); Solar borehole Utu lkot Umonte (Etim Ekpo) among others.
Present at the event were elected and appointed political office holders in the respective Local Government Areas, members of the Traditional Rulers Council, well-wishers and supporters.
