AKHA SUSPENDS LANGUAGE BILL FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

A Bill to promote and make compulsory the learning and teaching of the Ibibio Language in Secondary Schools in the state has been stepped down for further deliberation.
The Bill was sponsored by the immediate past Speaker and member representing Ibesikpo Asutan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Aniekan Uko.
Mr. Uko, who is the House Committee Chairman on Business, Rules, Ethics and Privileges, moved the motion for the stepping down of the Bill, which was duly seconded by the member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, Dr Usoro Akpanusoh.
Though Mr. Uko’s motion was consented to by all the members present, the presiding officer of the day and Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Princess Felicia Bassey, said it was for the good of society.
