An Honorary Award has been conferred on the Honourable. Commissioner for Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Akan Okon by members of Earthmoving Equipment, Double Axle Truck Owners/ Operator’s Association (EMEDATOA), Akwa Ibom State Chapter during a courtesy visit to him.
The Award was presented to Mr. Okon in view of his exceptional contributions to the development and growth of Akwa Ibom for the overall interest of the society.
Receiving the Award, Mr. Akan Okon, thanked EMEDATOA for recognising and appreciating his little efforts towards supporting the government’s goals in bettering the lives of every citizen.
While commending them for selecting him for such an Award, the Commissioner promised not to betray the confidence they have in him.
The Commissioner assured them that their services will be needed during the construction process of the Ibom Deep Seaport because lots of earthmoving equipment will be used.
He encouraged every member of the association who does not have vast knowledge on the operation of the equipment to embark on further training in order acquire the requisite skills to function optimally when the contraction process commences so they will not be left out.
“EMEDATOA will be carried along because we will not bring operators of equipment from outside the state or the country but you must be well trained and qualify. Apart from earthmoving equipment, a lot of artisan works will also be available there but only trained Personnel will be able to take advantage of it”.
Mr. Okon lauded Governor Emmanuel for his love for the development of Akwa Ibom State and appreciated EMEDATOA for supporting the Udom’s government so far. He enjoined them not to relent but should join hands with the government to build a lasting legacy for the future generation.
In his address, State Chairman of EMEDATOA, Comrade Edikan Iweh, thanked Governor Emmanuel for reappointing Mr. Akan Okon to serve in his cabinet.
He noted that when Mr. Okon served as the Commissioner for Special Duties and Aviation Development, the most celebrated achievement of this administration “Ibom Air” became a reality, therefore, the association has no doubt in his capacity to bring to birth the propose Ibom Deep Seaport which will create employment opportunities for the teeming youths.
Comrade Edikan asserted that as a foremost indigenous group of professionals in Civil Engineering, technical expert, tradesmen, earthmoving equipment business men and truck transporters, EMEDATOA are poised to contribute their quotas to the socio-economic development and nation building.
He pledged their loyalty and support to the Udom Emmanuel led government.
