A’IBOM SPEAKER TASKS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE ON MENTORSHIP FOR YOUTH

National Vice Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria and Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has tasked the Institute of Corporate Leadership and Mentorship (ICLM) to develop leadership templates that will “encourage youths of the state to be part of leadership recruitment process in the state and also be stakeholders in the governance of the state.”

Rt. Hon. Bassey gave the charge in Uyo on Thursday while receiving a ‘Leadership Gold Award’ from the Advisory Council and Management Board of ICLM, a foremost leadership development organization in Nigeria, during its International Leadership Day Celebration.

Represented by his Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mr. Darlington Udobong, the Speaker expressed delight knowing that ICLM ideals are in sync with his brainchild, the RHAB-YESS Foundation, saying “the Foundation is discovering, empowering and mentoring small businesses. It completely complements Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Enterprise Development Drive, youth development and empowerment.”

He added that “the laudable visions of our forebears are in the hands of the youth and future leaders. It will only come to fruition when we no longer see ourselves as bystanders in governance but owners and stakeholders.”

Rt. Hon. Bassey further thanked the Advisory Council and Management Board of the Institute for laying an indelible foundation for leadership in Akwa Ibom State.

In his opening remarks, the Director General of the Institute, Pastor Emmanuel Eduongo, said the event, which had as theme, “Imperative of Reinventing Organizational Leadership Perspectives,” was the institute’s “way of inspiring and reawakening the consciousness of today’s leaders for better performance.”

He said the Award was conferred on the Speaker in recognition of his sterling leadership qualities and outstanding contributions to nation building and human capacity development.

Pastor Eduongo maintained that the converge provides a better platform for us to show the direction that we should be going as 2023 General Election beckons on us, and in consideration of the present quagmire that the nation is facing. It is our hope that the event will proffer the way forward to any seeming infractions in our leadership engagements.”

Highpoints of the event included a paper presentation by Dr Godwin Akpan, induction of Fellows of the Institute, Award presentation among others.
