Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has lauded the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Martha Emmanuel, for initiating the ‘Shelter of Hope’ scheme through her pet project, Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path-Initiative (FEYReP).
Rt. Hon. Bassey, who was accompanied by his wife, Itohowo, made this known on Friday in Uruan Local Government Area where the First Lady commissioned three life-touching projects in Ibiaku Uruan, Ekpene Ibia and Ekpene Ukim.
According to the Speaker, the projects, well furnished apartments for Mr. Anietie Etim, a physically challenged; Madam Alice Bassey, a widow, and Madam Ana David, a widow, as well as a Manse for a Priest of the Methodist Church Nigeria, were initiated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Mr. Emmanuel Nicholas, and Chairman of the Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Okon Okon.
Rt. Hon. Bassey, who said the First Lady’s service to humanity was unparalleled, also thanked Mr. Okon for immortalizing his late mother with an edifice, Eti-Eka Mary Isaac Okon Memorial Manse.
“You have brought succour to the needy. You have put smiles on the faces of the less privileged. You have restored hope to the hopeless. The people of Uruan are very appreciative and thankful,” he said.
The Speaker, who donated handsomely to beneficiaries of the FEYReP project, further promised to replicate same for commissioning soon in less than three months.
