A’IBOM JAIL BREAK: WE HAVE REARRESTED 14 INMATES – ODITAH

Out of the alleged 47 inmates of the Ikot Ekpene Prisons including some high profile convicts who murdered a former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, 14 have been recaptured following intense manhunt for them by the guards, Ibom Telegraph gathered.

The Controller of Prisons, Mr Alex Oditah, who gave update of the incident yesterday, said the recaptured prisoners were among the 47 that forcefully escaped from the facility.

According to him, the Command has swung into action with a view to recapturing the 33 others still at large.

But Oditah, who said the cause of the incident could not be ascertained yet, however assured that the three-member committee set up to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the problem, would soon come up with findings.

He said no stone would be left unturned in establishing the fact behind the crisis that led to the jailbreak.

It was also gathered that the prison with the carrying capacity of 400 inmates, was already overstretched with over 800 inmates.
