A’IBOM ELECTIONS: I’M OPTIMISTIC OF VICTORY FOR PDP, UDOM – AKPABIO

Reflecting on the travail of the Akwa Ibom State Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Sunyiekekere Inokon, during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state, Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Investment, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, to the people of Afaha Ikot Ebak in Essien Udim Local Government Area that “the only way to pay the All Progressive Congress (APC) back for their many atrocities is to vote PDP.”

Prince Akpabio, who made this known on Sunday during a Victory Thanksgiving Service at Methodist Church Nigeria, Afaha Ikot Ebak, said he was “very optimistic of victory for PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuel on March 9 because the date symbolizes the centenary anniversary of the Methodist Church Nigeria.”

In his remarks, the Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Council, Elder Raphael Isobara, said the ordeal of Mr. Sunyiekekere Inokon during last elections will not deter the people of the area from voting PDP and celebrating Governor Udom Emmanuel’s victory at the polls.

Elder Isobara said “the thanksgiving service was apt and worthwhile because God’s grace and faithfulness has been the story of Essien Udim.”

The Council Chairman, who said though Hon. Inokon was assaulted by gents of the APC at the Collation Centre of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Essien Udim, appealed to the people of the area to be steadfast and committed to the PDP and all its candidates.

“Governor Udom Emmanuel’s second term is not negotiable. No amount of intimidation and harassment will stop us and our people from out to exercise our franchise,” he added.

While maintaining that the miracle of conducting elections without any loss of life in the area was predicated on the ‘Divine Mandate’ as championed by the PDP, Elder Isobara expressed optimism that “the Governorship and House of Assembly elections will be victorious for PDP.”

Recounting his travail, Hon. Inokon, who thanked God for the safety done him during Presidential and National Assembly elections, said his survival was divine and the handiwork of God, adding that “PDP signifies democracy, not violence. God has given us victory through PDP.”

He charged the people of the area to go out and vote PDP for progress, development, equity, justice, fairness and strive to put up attitudes of peace during the Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

The State Deputy Chairman of PDP further appealed to the people of the area to shun violence, no matter the push, adding that he is “a living testimony.”

In his homily, the Presbyter in-charge of Afaha Circuit, Very Rev. Effiong William, charged the people to be united and peaceable for the development and progress of the area.

The thanksgiving service was attended by the Political leader of Essien Udim, Chief Michael Afangideh; the House of Assembly member-elect, Barrister Esse Umoh; Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Monitoring, Comrade Martins Inyangetoh; Leader of the Legislature, Uduakobong Umoh, and Chapter Chairman of PDP, Hon Cyril Udoh.

Others included the Chapter Woman Leader, Mrs. Mfon Udoima; Lady Esther Inokon; Polycarp Umoh; former Council Chairman, Barrister Martin Umanah; former Accountant General, Sir Udo Isobara; Barrister Maurice Udoka; former Council Vice Chairman, Mrs. Christiana Akpan; Isaac Akpan; Chairman of Chapter Chairmen, Effiong Brown; Chapter and Ward Officers among others.

Highpoint of the event, which included a Holy Communion session, was a special prayer session for the State Governor, Hon. Inokon and members of the PDP.
