…Reiterates support for government’s fight against COVID-19

 

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel over the ongoing construction of a 300-Bed Isolation Centre at the General Hospital, Ituk Mbang, Uruan Local Government Area, as part of efforts to contend the ravaging Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.

 

Rt. Hon. Bassey, who gave the commendation during an on-the-spot inspection of the project on Monday, hinted that the Centre, when completed, would also have a doctor quarters, laboratory, and administrative offices..

 

The Speaker, a two-term representative of Uruan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, was accompanied to the project site by Deputy Leader of the House and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Barrister Aniefiok Dennis (Etinan), and Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Hon. Udeme Otong (Abak).

He further described the project as a right step in the right direction, saying his “constituents and the House of Assembly are pleased with the state government’s response to COVID-19.”

 

Hon. Bassey also said the 7th Assembly will continually remain supportive to the state government in the fight against the deadly virus and urged the people to cooperate with the government to ensure that the war against COVID-19 is won and on time.

 

“This project is highly commendable. The Governor has taken the right step at the right time. Nobody saw COVID-19 coming, but we’re pleased that the State Government has responded swiftly. We will support the Executive in this fight and we’re ready to help in whatever area”, he said.

 

On his part, the Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Otong, stressed that the Isolation Centre was a clear indication of the current administration’s commitment to good healthcare and lauded the Governor for tackling the pandemic, headlong.

 

He said government’s approach to the pandemic has minimized its spread in the state and expressed satisfaction at the level and quality of work at the Isolation Centre.

 

The Project Manager, Engr. Ekemini Ukim, while conducting the lawmakers round the construction Site, assured that the centre will be delivered within the next three weeks.
