ACCOLADES AS ANIEKAN BASSEY BOWS OUT AS AKWA IBOM SPEAKER

It was a moment of appreciation and sober reflection on Wednesday, as Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey officially bowed out as Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

At the Valedictory Session of the 7th Assembly, Members of the House, now former, took turns to shower encomuims on Rt. Hon. Bassey who has made history as the 12th Speaker of the Akwa Ibom Assembly, serving from June 10, 2019 to June 7, 2023.

The former Lawmakers in their respective remarks, particularly thanked the immediate past Speaker and Senator-elect for Uyo Senatorial District for his humility and sterling leadership qualities which they noted ensured peace and stability in the 7th Assembly.

While appreciating their respective Constituencies for the opportunity to serve, the former members held that the 7th Assembly has lived up to expectation and contributed immensely to the development of Akwa Ibom State.

In his remarks, the immediate past Speaker and Senator-elect for Uyo Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, noted that the House of Assembly under his leadership has pushed the Akwa Ibom project to a greater height through 79 life-touching and development-oriented Bills, 37 Motions and Matters of Public Importance.

“It is also worthy of note here that out of these 79 Bills, 27were passed into Law out of which 13 were assented to by the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. We have also left a handful of the Bills at various stages of legislation which are between 1streading and public hearing/stakeholders engagement. Over 37 Motions and Matters of Public Importance were raised on the floor of the 7th Assembly and several Committee reports were submitted between inauguration and to date.

“The 7th Assembly was able to link the Assembly Complex to the National Grid and also purchased a brand new 500KVA Cummins Power Generator to supply power to facilities within the Assembly premises. We were able to install brand new borehole system with complete reticulation within the Assembly Complex and also installed VIP Toilets in all the Directors’ Offices.

“Today, our Hallowed Chamber is a Masterpiece. We were able to upgrade the Chamber to world-class standard with the installation of the latest TAIDEN Technology, the TAIDEN MCA-Stream Multi-Channel Audio Digital Transmitting Technology and 44-TAIDEN HCS-4800 Series with Full Digital Congress System in the Chambers of the AkwaIbom State House of Assembly as well as two high definition LED Televisions (64-Inches and 82-Inches) and also renovated the Assembly Clinic to standard. We have completely carpeted the Gallery for better sound production during plenary. These are just to say the least”, he said.

He thanked the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who according to the Speaker, provided an enabling environment for the 7th Assembly to function.

Rt. Hon. Bassey also appreciated Akwa Ibom people and members of the 7th Assembly for their cooperation and support which led to a united and successful session.

Highpoint of the Valedictory Session was the unveiling and handing over of an ultramodern Research/ICT Centre donated by the Immediate past Speaker to the House of Assembly.
