In what may be described as an agenda-setting forum for the New Year, youths of Abak Local Government Area has restated their commitment to sustain the support for the Peoples Democratic Party and the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel as well as massively mobilize support for the governor’s return bid in 2019.
Numbering over 500, the youths in a solidarity visit to the President African Media Network (AMNET) Elder Aniekan Umanah and wife, Maureen, at their Abak residence expressed gratitude to the much they have benefitted from the programmes and policies of the current state administration.
Moderating a vote of confidence on Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio, Umanah noted people of the area had no reason to look elsewhere, considering the huge government investment and patronage they stand to benefit from the governor’s industrialization and citizens empowerment programme.
Elder Umanah who is the immediate past Commissioner for Information and Communications advised the youths to support indigenes of the area serving in government, with particular reference to the Deputy Governor Mr. Moses Ekpo, whom he said has done well.
He tasked the youths to consolidate and stay united, to attract more dividends of democracy to the area rather than allow politics deplete their ranks, reminding them that a lot more can be achieved with peaceful coexistence and wished them well for the year.
Speaking, some youths including an aide to the governor Mr. Rock Dick, the PDP Chapter Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Jackson, Youth Leader Peter Eyo, Idorenyin Seaman, Ben Ebong and Aniedi Udo(Udo-Oko) all confirmed the decision of the youths to support Governor Emmanuel and called on a few who strayed to the opposition to retrace their ways to the ruling party, noting the PDP has been restructured to accommodate all interests.
They commended Umanah’s ingenuity and benevolence at always looking out for their welfare, noting no indigene of the area has done better than the media expert in seeing to the empowerment of countless number of people in various ways including scholarships, business start-ups and skills acquisition, while calling on other leaders from the area to emulate his example.
They appealed to their host Elder Aniekan Umanah, to consider representing Abak, Etim Ekpo and Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, as they were ready to re-write the area’s history to that of robust representation and moved a voice vote in support of their proposal.
