A former member of the House of Representatives, Mr Akaninyene Eyo has declared intention to run for the Senate come 2023.
Eyo, in an interview with newsmen, Tuesday, said he has decided to throw his hat into the race to represent the people of Akwa Ibom North West (Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District), based on several factors including God’s approval.
Eyo, who said that the Nigerian Red Chambers is not a place for an “on the job training but for those that have the experience in the legislative business.”
The former representatives of Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency, an indigene of Eka Uruk Eshiet, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, said he would run under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP). The party chieftain said “as a ranking National Assembly member with right attitude, capacity and vast experience in the legislative business, he has what it takes to effectively represent the people of Ikot Ekpene senatorial district in 10th Assembly, come 2023.
The former deputy chairman, House Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa, member, House Committee on Foreign Affairs as well as Chairman, PDP House of Assembly Committee in Bauchi State, noted specifically said that he has the desire to serve his people at the Red Chambers especially as he was being favoured by the zoning arrangement of the party and that, if given the opportunity, he will not disappoint his constituents.
While soliciting the support of his constituents, he advised them to shun all forms of violence, thuggery and other anti-social vices that could impinge the development of the senatorial district in particular and the state in general.
Answering question on the choice of Pastor Umo Eno by Gov. Udom Emmanuel as his preferred successor in 2023, the University of Calabar graduate said that he was in total support of the governor as leader of the party in the state, stressing that the governor has the interest of Akwa Ibom people at heart.
