Zoning may have undergone a minor readjustment owing to the emergence of incumbent Hon David Lawrence as the PDP flag-bearer but the arrow head, Otuekong Uduak Ekpo Eshiet, is still insisting that Eket zoning which predates the current democratic dispensation is still on course.
In a telephone interview early this morning, the Attah of Eket told this reporter that, Hon David Lawrence appealed passionately to the umbrella party to give him a waiver due to what he called exigencies of time, and his party through the delegates acceded to his humbled plea.
The Engineer cum political scientist further stated that politics is not charity, and as such we should no longer trade blames but close ranks quickly to return Governor Udom Emmanuel to the Hilltop Mansion and all other PDP office seekers come next year.
It would be recalled that in the build up to the just concluded primaries across various political parties, the umbrella party remains the only party that did not make the House of Assembly contest, the exclusive preserve of Okon geopolitical zone.
This led to the zone losing out in the political equation and this sparked controversy and protests across the nooks and crannies of Okon enclave
What remains now to be seen is how the incumbent lawmaker will be magnanimous in victory by accommodating various interests from aggrieved Okon stakeholders, in order to calm frayed nerves and forged ahead for the diadem.
Like it or hate it, this Little David will have his hands full if he eventually squares up against his former Boss, believed to have picked the broom party’s ticket.
A fierce contest is certainly in the offing between two political gladiators who are not new to one another but it is only the now enlightened electorate that will eventually decide
