WORLD BANK POST COVID-19 INTERVENTION GRANT:AKSG INAUGURATES COMMITTEE

Akwa Ibom State COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (State CARES) for Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus Programme (NIGERIA CARES) has been inaugurated.

The setting up of the committee is to enable the State to benefit from the World Bank Post COVID-19 intervention programmes as directed by the National Economic Council.

Inaugurating the Committee on Thursday, the Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem, said the Committee is expected to work out modalities that will enable the State benefit from the World Bank’s Support Scheme.

According to Dr Ekuwem, the committee is saddled with the responsibility of coordinating and delivering systems to scale up emergency support;regulating guidelines to support effectiveness and sustainability of the livelihoods and food security activities; capacity building and the necessary guidance to enable the State achieve the Seven Disbursement Linked indicators (DLIs).

The State Chief Scribe expressed confidence that the crop of persons in the committee are capable of providing the necessary services to enable the state benefit from the grant.

The Akwa Ibom State CARES Core Team for NIGERIA CARES is chaired by the Commissioner, Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Akan Okon, while the Director of Economic Planning in the Ministry, Mrs Enobong Okpongkpong serves as Secretary.

Other members of the committee include Commissioner for Agriculture and Women Affairs, Dr Glory Edet, Commissioner for Finance, Mr Linus Nkan, Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Prof Victor Inoka, Commissioner for Trade and Investment,Prince Ukpong Akpabio and the Special Adviser, Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperative, Hon Ekemini Umoh.

Others are the State Accountant-General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Development and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr Effiong Ekpenyong and the State Project Coordinator,FADAMA,Mr Richard Sam, among others.

Responding on behalf of the Committee Members, the Chairman and Focal Person, Mr Akan Okon thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for setting up the committee and expressed the determination of the committee in ensuring that
Akwa Ibom meets the requirements of the World Bank in order to benefit from the facility.

Mr Okon pledged to work assiduously to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The Commissioner said, “I want to thank the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel for responding in this manner by setting up this committee as directed by the National Economic Council.

“We’re going to work and ensure that all the requirements that will enable the state participate fully and benefit in every post COVID-19 activity of the Federal Government as sponsored by the World Bank, is realised.
