The Coalition of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA) has prioritized training and retraining of its members in the year 2020 for efficient service delivery.

The statement was made rising from the first EXCO meeting of the organization held on Thursday, January 9, 2020, in Uyo.

The Chancellor of COPPA and Publisher of The Mail, Mr. Ifreke Nseowo said it is pertinent to equip COPPA members for the media revolution going on in the world through training and retraining.

Mr. Ifreke said that training will stand out COPPA members from others in the saturated new media field, adding that professionalism is the watchword of COPPA.

The meeting had in attendance top bloggers and media personalities; the Deputy Chancellor & Publisher of, Mr. Aniekan Ekah, the Secretary-General, Nelson NseAbasi, the publisher of Ibom Telegraph and Special Assistant to the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr. Darlington Udobong, the publisher of, Mr. Utitofon Morgan, Publisher of, Prince ‘Goldenchyld’ Simeon and social media influencer, Uby Indomitable.

A committee on Training & Capacity Development was set and Mr. Utitofon Morgan was appointed as Chairman of the committee. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Morgan confessed that although there is a passion for the job, most bloggers do not have a foundation in Mass Communication, as such, postgraduate courses in communication and professional certifications are important to empower them for the job.

The house adjourned further discussion to the next meeting in February 2020, which will be a general assembly, to accommodate the over 50 (fifty) members of the group which is the apex umbrella body of online publishers in the State.
