The Acting Rector of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, Dr Moses Umobong has congratulated the First Lady and wife of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Her Excellency, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel on the conferment of award of Honorary Doctor of Philosophy of Science Degree in Social and Human Development (Ph.D Honoris Causa), by the University of Uyo.
According to Dr Umobong, the recognition of Her Excellency’s substantial contributions to improvements in human social conditions, development of hidden talents with capacity building among the youth and feats of philanthropy which have touched many lives in the state and beyond bears eloquent testimony to the fact that excellence and selfless service to humanity cannot go on noticed.
Dr Umobong who described the award as timely, well deserved and a call to more service to God and humanity, urged the First Lady not to relent in her avowed commitment to changing the narrative of Akwa Ibom women and children, as exemplified through her Pet Project, Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Programme (FEYReP), which has positively transformed the lives of hundreds of households in the state.
He noted with delight that through the First Lady’s Pet Project, the Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path Initiative (FEYReP), the goal of creating a robust economic empowerment for families and reorientation of the youths to eschew all forms of moral decadence has achieved great success.
It could be recalled that the Governor’s wife has in the last four years pioneered the creation EEYReP, a platform for showcasing successful Akwa Ibom families, empowered women to provide economic and emotional support to their families, end stigmatization and violence against women, advocate for the prevention of teenage pregnancy, rape and education for the girl child, create opportunity that engenders moral values and economic excellence and support government efforts towards sustainable development goals.
