Standard bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ikono/INI Federal Constituency, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo has welcomed the mass defection of members and executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom into the PDP, saying that it was an affirmation of victory for the PDP.
Obong Ukpong-Udo, who made this known on Wednesday during a chat with newsmen, noted that the defection from the APC further explains the lack of capacity of the party to hold and manage a political party, and indeed a government, and calls on the defectors to see their defection as a home coming and a call to duty.
According to him, “The decision of a significant number of members of both the Local Government Chapters and State Chapter Executives to leave the APC and return to the PDP clearly indicates that the APC is sinking and the people are ready to change the change.”
“I sincere commend the courage of the people of Akwa Ibom, particularly the defector, for standing up in defense of our democracy; for standing up to restore the economy, for standing up to create opportunities for the teeming youth, and for standing up to promote unity and security to lives and property,” he added.
Speaking further, Obong Ukpong-Udo, a renowned philanthropist, said “They, the APC, have turned our country up-side-down; they have deployed the police to persecute political opponents and so, it is commendable that the people of the state, starting from their own fold, have chosen to be on the right. Posterity shall keep a noble account of their exceptional courage.”
Obong Ukpong-Udo lauded the leader of the party in the state, Governor Udom Emmanuel, for presenting PDP as a suitable platform for the defectors and congratulated them for their courage to return home.
The Ikono/INI House Representatives candidate emphasized that the choice of the PDP as a preferred destination for the defectors is an endorsement and affirmation of victory for the party in 2019.
