INFO BOSS GEARS ON WITH FIRE FIGHTING AND SAFETY DRILLS FOR STAFF

In his continuous efforts at repositioning and rebranding the Ministry, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong has geared on by flagging-off a fire fighting and safety training drills for the staff.

The drilling session which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters, Block 2, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Abak Road, Uyo, is aimed at getting the workers acquainted with the operation of the newly fire fighting Gadgets procured and installed at strategic locations of the Ministry to prevent any unforseen fire mishap in the building.

Comrade Ini Ememobong who on assumption of office was confronted with poor electrical connection challenges in the Ministry as well as lack of security lights around the building, had undertaken proactive measures towards a comprehensive electrical reconnection work in the Ministry by professionals as well as ensured installation of security lights for the office.

Represented by the permanent Secretary, Mr Inyang Jameson at the drilling session, the State Information helmsman reiterated that, it was expedient for staff to know the workability of the fire prevention and fighting equipment, in event of any fire outbreak and advised the staff to take advantage of the opportunity by showing seriousness and commitment.

The Resource Person, Mr Anthony Tom, a Deputy Director with the Fire Service, said that a lot of factors are responsible for fire incident, attributable to human actions, such as violation of fire safety rules or failure to adhere to fire safety guidelines.

MR. Tom while enlightening staff of the Ministry on the use of different fire safety gadgets like fire extinguisher, fire ball and fire blanket etc. during emergencies before the arrival of the Fire Service, reiterated, the need for all office premises, Cars and homes to have functional fire extinguishers in the event of an emergency.

In a vote of thanks, an Administrative officer, who is also the Departmental Security Officer(DSO) Mr. Mfon Umoette on behalf of the staff in the ministry, expressed deep appreciation to the Commissioner for organizing the fire safety training for staff and for the huge investment he has put into the electrical installation work which has really the Ministry a facelift.

Mr. Umoette who recalled the numerous rebranding packages Comrade Ini Ememobong has provided for the staff as well as the conducive working environment now enjoyed in the Ministry of Information and Strategy, said, the workers are very grateful and pledged their strict adherence to all the spelt out fire safety measures.

High point of the training was the practical demonstration of the use of the fire fighting equipment, with the Permanent Secretary Mr Inyang Jameson and staff taking turns in the operation of the fire extinguishers.
