GOV EMMANUEL IS FORWARD THINKING – COMRADE EMEMOBONG

Governor Udom Emmanuel is forward thinking as COVID-19 pandemic met Akwa Ibom with best Healthcare facilities across the ten Federal constituencies of the State.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong stated this Thursday, November 19, 2020 while playing host to Participants/Administrative staff of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Nigeria Senior Course (SC) 43 currently on its annual study tour of Akwa Ibom State.

Comrade Ini Ememobong who was addressing the participants on the theme, “Pandemic and National Security: COVID-19 in perspective”, said, Healthcare has been critical to Governor Udom Emmanuel right from day 1 in office, which made the fight against COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom to record tremendous success with very minimal case fatality rate of about 28 percent.

The State Spokesman reiterated that, all the ten Federal constituencies had at least one state-of-the digitized secondary health facility complete with computerised patients’ health record and functional Intensive Care Units, ICU as well as 19 ventilators for the management of infectious diseases including COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, apart from effective usage of Homecare service for COVID-19 cases which could not be readily transferred to ICU, government also undertook the building of the 300 bed International…within 40 days, generally referred to as the “Wonder of Ituk Mbang”, which was furnished with state-of-the arts medical equipment which had long been procured by Governor Udom Emmanuel for the people of the State before the insurgence of the pandemic.

According to the Information helmsman, the foresightedness of Governor Udom Emmanuel during the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic also manifested in the palliatives distributed then to the people of the state, as all the food items including, flour, garri, rice, among others, were all locally sourced, produced from the rice mill, garri processing mills and flour mill all operational in the state.

He said, Information on COVID-19 pandemic was disseminated to the people of the state for a wider reach using multi -facet media of communication, including the Radio, with a wider penetration capacity, Church organisations through the coordination of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, market leaders, and the aide of Traditional institution using the Town Announcers.

The Information Boss, advocated for a National Policy on Risk Communication”, by the Federal Government to enhance Information spread during pandemic outbreaks as well as a “National Health Security Policy”, to boost inter-state security at boundaries to ward off the pandemic spread across boarders by air and road.

While declaring their mission, the leader of the team, Brigadier General B. Adonkie has said, the participants were in the state to have an orientation on government’s perspective on COVID-19 to form part of the report of the team after the study tour.

Brigadier General B. Andokie who expressed delight at the warm reception they participants received from the Ministry said, the team which has participants from Ghana and other countries is made of 37 personnel including 28 students, instructors and coordinators.

Highlights of the event witnessed by the Permanent Secretary and Directors in the Ministry were the presentation of souvenir by the visiting team to the Commissioner as well as the presentation of “Akwa Ibom Impact” magazine and branded mementos of Completion Agenda and Governor Udom Emmanuel to the visiting team by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Ini Ememobong
