For the fourth time in less than a week, the youth of Abak under the umbrella of Abak Frontiers Network have warned that any attempt to manipulate the results of the October 5, 2018 House of Representatives primary of the constituency will not augur well for the party in the general elections.
In a statement issued in Abak on Monday the youth insisted that the people of Abak federal constituency rejects in its entirety any attempt to steal the people’s mandate freely given to Hon Uwem Udoma in order to allow a third term through the back door, as the people have spoken through their votes.
According to a statement jointly signed by Etim Simeon and Iboro Ekaebe, the youth said the only primary that ever took place all through the 10 federal constituencies and 26 State constituencies was the one conducted by the Barr. Yamah Momoh led electoral committee on October 5th, a process that saw Momoh himself issuing the original result sheets and materials used for the exercise from the State Secretariat of the party in Uyo after he addressed all aspirants.
“We hereby wish to state categorically that no House of Representatives primary ever took place anywhere in Akwa Ibom state on October 3, 2018, as claimed by Hon Emmanuel Ekon due to some exigencies of the election committee. The only primary that took place was held on October 5, 2018 in which Hon Uwem Udoma won, after which we all left for Abuja on Saturday, October 6 for the APC National Convention in Abuja. The party must at this critical moment stand for justice, equity and fairness. We will resist any undemocratic move to steal the mandate and right of Abak people as the party cannot change the winner and substitute his name with a loser”, the youth vowed.
The youth said it was ridiculous and a blatant lie for some elements within the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the APC to claim that Hon Emmanuel Ekon is to be given the ticket based on a purported plan to impeach Mr President by the PDP, which necessitated the urgent need to “compensate” Ekon with a third term ticket in order for the APC to have the much needed majority to wade off any impeachment threat against Buhari when the National Assembly reconvenes.
The propaganda and gimmick won’t just work. They think Abak people are fools. They are now playing a last minute card that PDP are planning to impeach Buhari and that Ekon should be compensated with the ticket to enable him go back to the House to frustrate any impeachment move. We are compelled to ask, why is the return ticket deal applicable only to Akwa Ibom State? Why plot to compensate somebody with Abak people’s mandate? Even in Kaduna, Senator Shehu Sani was not given any automatic ticket as compensation. The Speaker of the House of Representatives too, Hon Dogara was denied automatic ticket which was why he left the party for the PDP, go to Niger State it is the same scenario, so why bring something alien to other states to Akwa Ibom?”, they queried.
