The Commissioner for Special Duties, Akwa Ibom State, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, has commended the Youth Council Land Owners Development Union of the Victor Attah International Airport for their cordial disposition towards the project.
The Special Duties helmsman was speaking when Executive Committee Members of the group called at his office.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Efiong Efiakedoho, the Commissioner said that the peaceful disposition of the people which has contributed to smooth operations at the facility was a demonstration of high level maturity “as a people you have been a very good host to the whole of Akwa Ibom State and by extension the whole world because the airport that is seated there does not belong to Uruan, Nsit Atai or Okobo Local Government Area, but the whole Akwa Ibom State , and indeed the entire World “.
“Over the years you have been known as people who have been co-operative, allowing things to work smoothly” he added.
The Commissioner assured the youths that the state government would continually prioritize their interest and welfare and that their requests will be considered and treated Appropriately.
The National President of the Youth Council Land Owners Development Union of the Victor Attah International Airport, Comrade Effiong, thanked the state government for the prompt response to their correspondence. “This is our first time ever to meet a youth loving Commissioner”,
He said participatory development must involve the people in all phases and recognise the rights of the host communities to be treated fairly.
The leader of the delegation also spoke of the need for government to sustainably engage Land Owners of the VAIA to maintain the prevailing peace.
The group appealed to the State Government to provide them an office accommodation for smooth running of administrative processes, allocation of slots to teeming youth from the host communities and enhancement of social corporate responsibilities to host communities.
Present at the event were , Head of Admin/Supplies, Mr. Micheal Uko, Head of Account Directorate, Mrs Atim Tom, Head of PRS Directorate , Mrs Imo Udom, Head of Engineering Directorate, Engr. Etim Nkereuwem and Head of Aviation, Mrs Winifred Inyang.
