EROSION THREAT: ITUK MBANG/NUNG IKONO UFOK COMMUNITIES SEND SOS TO AKSG

Two communities in Uruan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have sent a desperate plea to the State Government to urgently intervene in the erosion threat which has almost cut off the communities.

These communities, Ituk Mbang and Nung Ikono Ufok, have decried the state of the Ituk Mbang Adadia Beach Road being ravaged by gully erosion since 2016.

Some of the community leaders said the road is a strategic stretch in the state which leads to the popular Ishiet Beach Market, one of the internally revenue sources to the state.

Village Head in Ituk Mbang, Eteidung Asuquo Urua said that the community had drawn the attention of the Council Chairman and member representing Uruan State Constituency in the State House of Assembly to the deplorable state of the road.

He called on the State Government to urgently intervene as the road enhances economic trade within the state, adding that the threat to several homes and families is taking an unfortunate twist in the socio-economic lives of the people whose major occupation is farming.

Also speaking, Chief Joseph Ata Essien from Nung Ikono Ufok Community said that the road had become a nightmare to motorists with the present state and emphasized the disadvantage it would cost the state in her economic activities for traders and fishermen plying the route on a daily basis.

Also, a youth leader, Asuquo Edet Akpan from Ituk Mbang said the youths in the area were focused on the support to the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration. He appealed to him to please come to their aide by reconstructing the road.

Also speaking, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Emmanuel Okon who also said that he had drew the attention of the State Ministry of Works to the deplorable state of the road, urged the residents of the two communities to remain calm.

According to him, the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who is determined to open up every part of the state for even development and industrialization will surely address the menace assuring that the Commissioner in-charge of the Works Ministry, Mr. Ephraim Inyang had directed the team of engineers from the ministry to access the situation for peeper briefing to the Governor.

Mr. Emmanuel Okon who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Eminence Oil and Chemicals Limited solicited support for Governor Udom Emmanuel to sustain more legacies for the people of Akwa Ibom State in the execution of various projects under his administration for the next eight years.

Meanwhile, officials from Ministries of Environment and Mineral Resources and Works have visited the site of the gulley erosion in order to proffer lasting solution to the erosion menace.
