EMMANUEL EKON: A JOBMAN PICKED FROM OBSCURITY AND DUSTED TO MANHOOD

The name Emmanuel Ekon, in the political lexicon of Akwa Ibom, is not one to wonder about, but not too many persons may know the true story of the outgoing Member, representing Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika In the Federal House of Representatives.

It is no longer news that many who lived in the United States, with Ekon, had gave details of how Ekon was a “PIMP” in the States. A term, used to describe guys who arrange girls for people to engage in sexual escapades.

Need I remind the people, that Ekon in the line of his PIMP job, was also a taxi driver in the United States. This is not about Ekon doing dirty jobs in the streets of US, it’s about Ekon, who in his days of obscurity, was rescued from servitude, and was given a lifeline of survival.

The current National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, on whose back, Ekon was dusted, and rode to the House of Representatives in 2011, is the same man that Ekon is insulting today.

A man who picked Ekon from the gutters, rented an apartment for Ekon, bought House of Reps form for him, and saw him through the elections financially, that is who Ekon and his infantile ragtag followers seek to subdue.

Despite emerging opposition for Enoidem to drop his support for Ekon, he took his stance, and declared that it was Ekon who will go to the National Assembly in 2011. Again in 2015, citing poor performance and his rigidity to his people, members of his Federal constituency rose in unison, and declared that Emmanuel Ekon was a mistake, that should not return to the Assembly. Again, Enoidem pleaded with the people to give him a chance to return for a second term, and as a Leader, he placated his people, they listened to him, and Ekon returned to the Federal House.

As prelude to 2019 elections, stakeholders in the Federal Constituency gathered, and said, for equity, the Federal Constituency seat should move to Abak Local Government. Insatiable and quest for power, the self serving Ekon, declared, he was returning for a third term. His benefactor, Emmanuel Enoidem said, he will not support a second term, and that the seat be moved to Abak, in laid down principles and agreement the people had reached.

From then, Ekon declared war on his Master, paid agents to discredit anything called by the name of Enoidem. He knows for sure that, from the outset, he was fighting a lost battle.

Tell me what wrong Enoidem made, in helping Ekon, and rescuing him from extreme poverty? Let Ekon tell the world, his overall worth in 2011. Ekon should tell us how he got to the Assembly.

When Jesus Christ had told Peter, that when the cock crows thrice, you will deny me, he had Emmanuel Ekon in mind. May history judge Ekon in his activities. Rudyard Kipling had posited that, “If history was taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.” We cannot forget the poverty stricken Ekon at this point, and must at all times, remind the world how betrayals like him keep talking, in the midst of defeats.

People like Ekon are reasons why others don’t get help. Ekon by all standard, is a bad example. Ayn Rand’s philosophy is nearly perfect in its immorality, which makes the size of her audience all the more ominous and symptomatic as we enter a new phase in our society. To justify and extol human greed and egotism, is to my mind not only immoral, but evil. Gore Vidal.

May our loyalty never be tested like Emmanuel Ekon, who threw caution to the wind, and attempted to fight his Master and Benefactor.

A REPUTATION FOUNDED ON INTEGRITY MUST BE NURTURED BY TRUTH.
