The bridge building disposition of Governor Udom Emmanuel, in line with his administration’s Political inclusion agenda, has been identified as a major indicator of great leadership capacity, which has united Akwa Ibom people and earned for the State, the respect of various segments of Nigeria.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Political/Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Barrister Ekong Sampson, stated this while speaking on Planet FM live radio programme, “the Akwa Ibom Mandate”
According to Barrister Sampson, Governor Emmanuel’s disposition to bridge building has positioned him in good stead to build the Akwa Ibom of our dream, where various strands, elements and persuasions are collapsed into one great family. He further noted that the people of the State, have learnt to invest their hopes in Governor Udom Emmanuel because of his credibility, bridge building disposition and belief in the pan Akwa Ibom perspective, where the larger interest of the State takes prominence over narrower considerations.
Commending the Governor on balanced development in the State, Ekong Sampson said all Senatorial Districts in the State are beneficiaries of the Governor Emmanuel’s bridge building disposition in terms of infrastructure and opportunities, as every part of the State is seen as an integral part of a larger enterprise and duly accommodated. That way, he added, it has become easy for the Governor to create a power valve that is instantly persuasive hence, the great drift of the Akwa Ibom political family members back home.
In his words: “we can say, and firmly so, that the political inclusion agenda outlined by the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration has played a critical role as a bridge building mechanism, which has persuaded a number of Akwa Ibom sons and daughters to return to their great family which is the PDP”, Sampson stated. He further stressed that the PDP is at once a strong statement in Akwa Ibom State, a political consciousness that has welded the people of the State together and one huge family.
Speaking on the returns of Mr. Sunny Udom to the party, Ekong Sampson emphasized that what played out in Abak that day was simply a return of Chief Sunny Udom to his root, and so words like defection or decamping could not be used to describe the scenario.
Agreeing with the position of his radio host, Mr. Sam Akpan, that the centre is apparently not holding anymore in the Akwa Ibom APC, Ekong Sampson cited the instance of the Reigners Bible Church collapse, where everybody scampered for safety as the roof began to cave. He thus maintained that no sane person would choose to remain inside a collapsing structure.
The Special Adviser said Sunny Udom’s metaphor of jumping from frying pan to fire was a strong statement and is clearly the underpinning as to why he and the others have returned to the family. He further explained that the mass of people that gathered at Abak that day, and the relief on their faces as they returned home, was an indication that the people really love PDP.
On the APC assertion that Sunny Udom had no followership, the Akwa Ibom political whiz described as contradictory, that a man who was found worthy to be the Director General of a gubernatorial campaign is alleged to have had no followership. On the contrary, Ekong Sampson described Sunny Udom as a great grassroots politician and a very experienced mobilizer. That, he affirmed, explains why he was made the DG of the gubernatorial campaigns of the APC.
