ormation reaching our news desk is anything to go by, it is the alleged ‘wanted declaration’and manhunt for Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, the Senator (OBA) representing Uyo Senatorial District, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), our source informed.
The source said Senator Akpan, who recently staged a constituency briefing and empowerment scheme for the people of Uyo Senatorial District, has been at large, hence could not attend the “very important Thursday plenary.”
OBA, as he is fondly called, is wanted by the Commission over alleged misappropriation of public funds and high level financial fraud that led to serious capital flight, the source further said.
Another source at the Port Harcourt office of the Commission said, “everyday more evidence is dig out and all have so far shown a high level of criminality and embezzlement of public fund as Commissioner for Finance. The Commission just wants to interrogate him. But what we do not understand is why he is at large. I do not the exact amount involve but it’s sure a big money in cash and assets.”
Though efforts to confirm the situation from the Uyo office of the Commission proved abortive, OBA’s media aide could not also be reached.
