DAVID LAWRENCE EMPOWERS CONSTITUENTS

 

In a bid to say thank you and to show appreciation to the people of Eket Local Government Area, the remember representing Eket State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr David Lawrence, has rolled out cars, motorcycles, LCD TV sets, Deep Freezer and many other household items to his constituents.

Unveiling his empowerment scheme to his people, Mr. Lawrence, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip in the Sixth Assembly, said the event also served as a brief on his activities in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly where they had sent him as their representative, adding that the empowerment was borne out of his desire to gradually transform members of his constituency and improve their economic capacity.

The Eket lawmaker expressed appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel, all stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and residents of Eket local government area, saying that the occasion was in fulfillment of his campaign promises that he decided to give back to his constituents for their support, adding that the bill for the law establishing the state’s Signage and Advertisement Control Agency which he sponsored has been passed into law, even as he has also co-sponsored 15 other bills.

Giving more highlight to his scorecard, Mr. Lawrence said he had reached out to various communities in Eket since 2015, some of which are the intervention programme for floor control at AME Zion Primary School, Usung Inyang-Eket, with provision of 150 writing desks and chairs to pupils; payment of monthly stipends to some constituents ranging from N25,000 to N100,000, the amount totaling N1,250,000 till date, and N100,000 cash grants each given to 25 women for small scale trading, amounting to N2.5 million.

Others are provision of starter packs for sewing machines he gave to 24 youths who had undergone six months training on fashion and designing, training of youths in vocations including fittings, welding and rigging.

Mr. Lawrence said he has also constructed an ultramodern ICT and civic center at Idua road, paid bursary to about 198 indigent students of tertiary institutions in the first phase and awarded scholarship to 12 undergraduates in some specific disciplines effective from the 2018/2019 academic session.

 

The event, which took place at the Eket Local Government Council Secretariat, Had in attendance Governor Udom Emmanuel’s representative and Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barrister Onofiok Luke, Deputy Speaker, Princess Felicia Bassey; Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs, Barrister Ekong Sampson; state lawmakers; Senator Helen Esuene; Chief Nduese Essien; former Ambassador to Russia, Chief Assam Assam; Chairman of Eket Local Government area, Mr. Frank Archibong, that of Esit Eket, Mr. Iniobong Robson; Paramount Ruler of Eket, Chief ECD Abia; PDP Chapter Chairman of Esit Eket and that of Eket; Barrister Jack Udota, among others.
