COVID-19: NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS COMMENDS AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)-Akwa Ibom State, has described as outstanding and commendable, the professionalism so far demonstrated by the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protectection and Waste Management Agency – AKSEPWMA in decontaminating public places against the further spread of the dreaded Corona Virus Pandemic, COVID-19.

The NUJ Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk gave the commendation on Friday May 22, 2020 while fielding questions from news Men during the disinfection and decontamination of the NUJ office complex in Uyo – Akwa Ibom State Capital.

Comrade Etuk while extolling Governor Udom Emmanuel for all his efforts in containing the deadly virus in the oil rich State, appreciated the Prince Ikim’s led Agency for disinfecting the NUJ Center. The Chief pen pusher reassured his Union’s readiness to continue partnering with AKSEPWMA and all other Government Agencies in all people oriented Projects.

Earlier, the AKSEPWMA Chairman who was accompanied by some of his Board Members, seized the opportunity to applaud Governor Emmanuel for being proactive with the construction of a brand new Isolation Centre at Ituk Mbang, described his Boss as a visionary Leader. He however, expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NUJ for being reliable partner in Progress.

Speaking further, Obong Ikim who disclosed that the extension of the second phase of the decontamination exercise to the NUJ office Complex was necessitated by the reality that Journalists are also frontline personnels in the fight against COVID-19, reassured that all public places not covered during the first and second phases, will be disinfected in subsequent phases of the decontamination exercise.

According to the former Council Boss of Oruk Anam, the second phase of the exercise Started with DSS Headquarters, Doctors Mess, Government House Press Centre, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, amongst others.

Other Places he mentioned to have been decontaminated during the first phase of the exercise were; Nigeria Police Headquarters, Markets, Hotels, Churches, Health Centres and General Hospitals in Ikot Abasi, Oruk Anam, Ikot Ekpene, Uyo, Uruan, Essien Udim, Ikot Ekpene, Itu and Eket Local Government Areas.

In another development, the NUJ Chairman, flanked by the union Secretary – Comrade Dominic Akpan, seized the opportunity to make an official presentation of the magazine (NUJ Standards) published by Amos Etuk’s led administration to the Waste Management Boss.
