COVID-19: A’IBOM SPEAKER FETES CONSTITUENTS, NUJ, COOPA, OTHERS  

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has passionately joined in the fight against the spread of Coronavirus otherwise known as Covid-19 by distributing food items worth millions of Naira to members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Conference Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom (COOPA) and his constituents, the people of Uruan Local Government Area, to help cushion the effects of the total lockdown in the state.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, while giving out the items, said the gesture is aimed at giving back to the society, emphasizing on the “need for the people to adhere to government’s directives on the prevention and control of the virus by staying at home as directed.”

 

The items included bags of rice, bags of beans, bags of garri, cartons of noodles, bags of salt, cartons of seasoning and cash.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Charles Iwatt, on Tuesday, while presenting the items to Clerk of the House of Assembly, Mrs. Mandu Umoren, said “the 7th Assembly under the watch of Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey remains committed to staff welfare.

 

He advised them to use the items judiciously and also use the stay-at-home period to seek divine intervention for the global pandemic to end.

 

In her remarks, the Clerk, Mrs. Umoren, who spoke on behalf of the Assembly Management and staff, described the gesture as a practical demonstration of love toward the workers and prayed for God’s blessings on the Speaker and Members of the 7th Assembly.

 

Also speaking, Chairman of Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Comrade Etiwan Sunday, thanked the Speaker for his generosity and said the workers will continually help the current Assembly in meetings its targets.
