CONSTITUTION AMENDMENT: AKHA SPEAKER INAUGURATES COMMITTEE

An eleven man ad-hoc committee on constitution amendment issues headed by the Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan has been constituted by the Speaker,Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke.

Announcing the committee on Thursday during plenary, Barr. Luke while listing the terms of reference, mandated members to 1. study the amendment proposed by the National Assembly, 2.collate inputs from members of the public, and 3. advise the House on the matter.
The committee was also asked in to undertake other matters connected to the above listed terms of reference.(1,2, and 3). He directed the ad-hoc committee to submit its report as soon as possible.

Members of the committee include, Rt. Hon. Barr. Ime Okon, Hon. David Lawrence, Hon. Samuel Ufuo, Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Hon. Idongesit Ituen, and Hon Otobong Jonathan. Also included are, Rt. Hon Friday Iwok, Hon. Nse Ntuen, and Hon. Uduak Odudoh.

Meanwhile, a private bill titled ”a bill for a law for the establishment of Akwa Ibom State Hotel Occupancy and Restaurant Consumption tax and other matters connected therewith’ sponsored by the member representing Esit-Eket/Ibeno state constituency, Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh, scaled first reading on the floor of the House. Speaker, Barr. Luke thereafter committed the bill to the Committee on Rules, Business and Ethics for rescheduling for second reading.
Also during today’s plenary, further legislative action on a report of the committee on Industry, Commerce and Tourism on Akwa Ibom State Public Private Partnership bill, 2016(HAB 176) was stood down for consideration in a the next legislative date.
The House adjourned plenary to reconvene on Thursday 12th October 2017 at 10:am.
