ANIEKAN BASSEY IDENTIFIES SOCIAL RE-ORIENTATION AS PREREQUISITE FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH

The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has identified proper social reorientation as a necessity for economic development.

The Speaker stated this on Monday in Uyo, at the official launch of ‘Mkpó Amaa Change’ (Things Have Changed’, a new Creed championed by the Akwa Ibom Social Reorientation Desk.

Speaking further, the Lawmaker, said there was need for a proper mental and moral reorientation, especially, among the youths, pointing out that such moves would result in more economic boom.

“Social reorientation is the most important issue for economic renaissance. Success is not about how you work, but about your mentality; success has a lot to do with social reorientation”, he said.

While commending the Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Reorientation, Mr Ekpeno Gold, for the initiative, the Speaker frowned at the spate of negative messages about Akwa Ibom State, especially on the social media.

He called on social media users to project the image of the state positively and also create publications that will foster more development in the state.

The Speaker commended the Akwa Ibom Social Reorientation Desk for its campaigns against rape and cultism in the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Reorientation, Mr Ekpeno Gold, lauded the Speaker for being a good model for young people within and outside the state.

He described the new dogma, ‘Mkpó Amaa Change’ as a moral, mental and attitudinal initiative that will also be used to showcase the achievements of the Governor Udom Emmanuel’s-led administration.

The Governor’s Aide stressed that the Social Reorientation Liaison Office was set up to enhance campaigns against rape, defilement, child abuse, vandalism, drug abuse, cultism and other violent crimes handled by his office.

Highpoints of the event included the formal unveiling of the ‘Mkpó Amaa Change’ brand and opening of the Akwa Ibom Social Reorientation Liaison Office located at 56 Enwe Street, Uyo.
