ANIEKAN BASSEY BAGS ‘DISTINGUISHED LEGISLATIVE LEADERSHIP AWARD’

Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, was on Wednesday, honoured with a Distinguished Legislative Leadership Award by the Chartered Institute of Leadership in Uyo.

Elated by the honour done him, the Speaker, who also promised to live according to the dictates of true leadership, said he would study and strive to ensure that the blueprint of the institute is implemented, after due consultation with the executive.

He also revealed that the 7th Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was on the verge of holding Town Hall meetings across communities in the state to ascertain and address their pressing issues.

In his words: “Very soon, we will be holding town hall meetings to know the needs and yearnings of each community and its people and address them. We will not just undertake projects in communities, but projects that are tailored towards meeting the needs of the people.”

Speaking, National President of the Institute, Prince Aniebiet Udofia, who presented the Award, described the Speaker as a distinguished legislator and further inducted him into the institute as Honorary Fellow.

Prince Udofia also presented “the Akwa Ibom Blueprint Project 2037” to the Speaker and emphasized that the document “is a proposed framework for uncompromised development of the state, its people and the future generations.”

According to the National President of the Institute, “the project focuses on economic growth, environmental sustainability and social development. When implemented, the Blueprint will enable each community in the state to decide what issues are more pressing and also enable the state government address those concerns.”
