AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT IMPRESSED WITH PROGRESS OF WORK AT ITUK MBANG ISOLATION CENTRE

Secretary to the State Government Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem has applauded the pace of work at the Isolation center, Methodist General hospital Itukmbang Uruan LGA.

Speaking to newsmen during an inspection of the progress of work at the facility, the S.S.G who is also the Chairman Covid19 Management Committee said that he was impressed that the project which was started 27 days ago is near completion and due for inauguration on a scheduled date.

He lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel’s initiative of a state-of-the-art isolation center with built-in Doctors call center, Laboratories, Canteen and the wards fully equipped for both the patients and the medical Team, in addition to the existing facilities at the Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital and the Infectious Disease Hospital at Ikot Ekpene, in spite of the minimal number of cases recorded in the state.

Hear him: “Having gone round to see what has happened here in the past 27 days; the wards, their call rooms, the clinical lab and the virology lab, the waiting bay and the point of decontamination and fumigation of even the medics when they are through with their works, where they will vest and where they will unvest. And the kind of strict security control and medical security control that they have to go through to ensure that they do not infect neither are they infected, then those who are already in, they do not go out infected to infect the members of the larger society”.

Dr. Ekuwem described the Governor a proactive leader who would not be taken unawares by situation and commended the Commissioner of Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen, and his team for a smart and detailed job done within the stipulated time.

“With just about 16 confirmed cases, we have already enough space for suspected cases in Ibom Specialist Hospital, at IDH in Ikot Ekpene and now we have a 300-bed space here. You can see the level of preparedness of a leader that does not want to be taken unawares”, Ekuwem said.

The Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyangeyen who showed the S.S.G around the facility said that by Saturday the Isolation center would be completed and furnished for inauguration. He expressed appreciation to the Governor for giving the project a priority attention and ensuring that the job meets specifications.

Mr. Inyangeyen expressed appreciation to the workers for their untiring dedication to the job execution. He also acknowledged the contributions of some contracting firms to the Success story. He said that the project will not exceed the one-month mandate by the Governor.

Present during the visit by the S.S.G, were Commissioner for information Mr. Charles Udoh, Chairman Hospital Management Board, Dr. David Udoumo, the Medical Director of the Hospital Dr. Mary Udoh, Chief Press Secretary Mr. Ekerete Udo and the Director of Information, Mr. James Edet among others.
