AKSG READS RIOT ACT TO KEKE BANDITS

Commissioner for Transport, Prince Godwin Ntukudeh, has said his Ministry is fully aware of the activities of some criminal elements that have infiltrated the Keke business and are going about molesting their victim in the guise of ticketing, hypnotize their passengers and rob them of their money and valuables.

He said the government was on top of the situation, as the security agencies have so far arrested the perpetrators of the act, assuring members of the public that the state government is leaving no stone unturned in its avowed determination to instill sanity in the transport sector.

Expressing concern over the activities of touts masquerading as taskforce members, Dr. Ntukudeh said the government approved monitoring team members are easily identified as there is a centralized task force put in place with the backing of the police for monitoring activities.

“Let me assure members of the public that we will stamp out those hoodlums from the state. So far a number of them have been captured. The security agencies have been mandated to swing into action.”

The Commissioner further disclosed that the Akwa Ibom State Traffic Management Agency bill is which was conceptualized during the last administration will be re- forwarded to the House of Assembly for passage to give legal backing to the operations of the agency.

He stated that the agency will be working in synergy with the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in a bid to ensure the safety of road users in the state.

“You will see them with branded task force vehicles or with VIO branded vehicles and their duties are mainly to check illegal loading and wrong parking by motorists”.

Ntukudeh also said that with the Agency in place, there will be another source of revenue generation for the state government as the FRSC will now be focusing on major highways instead of internal state roads.
