The member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA), Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem has reaffirmed the commitment of the assembly to fund and support the Nigeria Police Force to function effectively.
Representing the Speaker of AKHA, Rt Hon. Aniekan Bassey in an Interactive session titled: ”Community and safety partnership interactive session”, organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Itu-Ibiono Ibom Area Command, Akwa Ibom State at the Itu Council Headquarters, Mbak Atai Itam on Wednesday, January 8, 2019, Edidem said the house will further the course of establishing community policing.
“The AKHA will continue to support proactive policing and by the 21st of January when the House Plenary resumes, we shall further the course of the establishment of Community Policing to bring it to fruition.”
Edidem who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Commerce, Industry, Culture, and Tourism welcomed the new Police Commissioner, CP Imohimi Edgal to Akwa Ibom State and praised the doggedness of the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) in Itu local government and reassured them of continued support of the assembly.
“Your antecedents preceded your coming to Akwa Ibom and so we were very excited when you were posted here. We are committed to funding and supporting the police for proper functioning. Your area commander has been very professional and proactive.
“The DPO of Itam has endeared himself to the community and the people are at peace with him. He must be commended. The DPO of Oku Iboku has done very well too and we have to say that we have good ambassadors of the Police Force in Itu. Let me reiterate that we are ready to support the continued progress of the police force in the State,” he concluded.
Dignitaries at the event include; The member representing Nsit Atai in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Chairman House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Mark Esset; Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Etetim Onuk; his Counterparts from Ibesikpo Asutan, Hon. Sylvester George; Ibiono Ibom, Hon. Ekomabasi Akpan; Uruan; Nsit Atai, Hon. Henry Udofia, and Emem Ibanga, respectively.
Others are the Paramount Ruler of Itu Local Government Area, Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang; Paramount Ruler of Uruan Local Government Area, Edidem Cosmas Nkanga; the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, among others.
