A’IBOM GOVT WILL NOT ACCEPT SUB-STANDARD ROAD PROJECT, WORKS COMMISSIONER WARNS

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, has warned that the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel will not accept any sub-standard road project in the state whether in the capital city or any rural villages.

 

Mr. Inyang disclosed this when he led a team of engineers to inspect the ongoing Ukpana -Ikot Abasi -Akpabom Road in ONNA Local Government Area to see the level of work done, saying “We have standards in road projects in the state, that standard has been set and we need to follow suit.”

 

He expressed dissatisfaction on how the contractors had derailed from the standard set and ordered the contractors to do corrections in the next thirty days else the contract will be revoked.

 

“The road has no shape, the wire used is sub standard .The drainage done on both sides of the road is not acceptable, it cannot be allowed. If not corrected we have no choice than to revoke the contract.”

 

The Works Commissioner ordered the breaking down of the drainage at Ukana road and charged the site engineer to cancel the entire drainage drawing, maintaining that the state government is determined to give Akwa Ibom people the best road that will stand the test of time.

 

At the college of Education, Afaha Nsit, the commissioner was highly impressed with the level of work done by the contractor. At Etinan Eket road dualization and Eket Roundabout .

 

The inspection culminated in the demolition of few houses to pave way for development at the Etinan roundabout where government had paid full compensation for the buildings.

 

At Awa Iman – Osong – Ikot Ebiere road network, the project had be constructed by the Julius Berger and the CCECC Nigeria Limited, as well as, the WE Construction, the H en completed. However, there was massive earthwork ongoing on the Ikot Ebekpo – Ikot Ebidang Road. At the Uyo – Etinan roundabout by the Etinan Institute, where there is a confluence of the three roads, Mr. Inyang has ordered the three companies to work together and ensure that they deliver on time.
