UDOM LAUDS POLICE FORCE FOR PRODUCING SPORT CHAMPIONS FOR THE COUNTRY

Akwa Ibom State Governor Mr Udom Emmanuel has stressed the need for more investments in the development of Sports in the country.
The Governor stated this during the closing ceremony of the 11th Biennial Police Games Intra Zonal Championship held at Godswill Akpabio International stadium, Uyo.
He said sports development is another source of revenue to boost the economy of the State and that sports aside from revenue generation aids in fostering national and global harmony as well as promote the well being of an individual.
He commended the Nigeria Police force for blazing the trail in the production of a number of Sport Stars in the country and listed such champions to include Chioma Azunwa and Samuel Peters.
The State Chief Executive lauded the Police Force for projecting the image of the country by giving opportunity for sport talents to be exposed and expressed optimism that within the next seven years the state will boast of more sport talents in the country given his administration’s commitment to establish Sports Academy and equipped with facilities in the ten Federal Constituencies of the state.
He added that this would make Akwa Ibom the hub of sustainable development of sports in the country and pledged a donation of five hundred thousand naira to first prize winners, three hundred thousand naira to second prize winners and two hundred thousand naira to the third prize winners in all the nine events of the competition.
Earlier the Assistant Inspector General Zone 6, Mr Adisa Baba Bolanta, represented by the Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State command, Peace Ibekwe Abdallah, expressed appreciation to God for the successful hosting of the event to boost the morale of the officers and men of the command adding that the competition has enabled the participants to showcase their talents as well as enhance the virtue of teamwork among members of the Police Force.
He thanked the State Government for the support and solicited more support to sustain the competition
