As the 2019 general election gears up, Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ikono/INI Federal Constituency, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (Macaire), has urged his constituents, the people of Akwa Ibom State and Nigerians to be constructive in their criticism of government, its programmes and those in positions of authority, adding that they “must strive to elect credible leaders.”
Obong Ukpong-Udo, a philanthropist from Ikono Local Government Area, who gave the charge as part of his New Year message, pointed out that participation in governance and prayer by the people, at this period of election in the country, were completely necessary.
He reasoned that it was not enough for the people to elect leaders but that they needed to guide the leaders through their participation in governance and sustain those leaders with prayers.
The Ikono / Ini National Assembly candidate, said that the Akwa Ibom example, particularly his political aspiration to represent the people of Ikono and INI Local Government Areas in the House of Representatives, has made him to truly know that “uneasy lies the head that wears the crown.”
Obong Ukpong-Udo thanked the people of Ikono/INI Federal Constituency for their tireless support, commitment, dedication and encouragement.
He attributed the success story of his emergence as the PDP standard bearer for Ikono/INI Federal Constituency to the fact that God Almighty has the final say in the affairs of men.
The Ikono/INI Federal Constituency candidate appealed to the people of his area, particularly the youths, to shun social vices and writings that are destructive.
Obong Ukpong-Udo further charged the people of Ikono/INI Federal Constituency to represent their true virtues of hospitality, sincerity, trust and love to one another and strive, at all time, to be instruments of peace, encouragement and development in the year 2019.
