2019 SENATE: IDE OWODIONG-IDEMEKO STANDS TALL AS USD BECKONS

As political permutation in Akwa Ibom, particularly Uyo Senatorial District, begins to act out its usual trademark of unpredictability. The situation is such that the incumbent Senator, Obong Bassey Albert (OBA), is embattled on all sides for two issues – his abuse of zoning and desperation against the wish of the people for second term.

If the agitation for zoning, which has become a cardinal principle of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), succeeds, then the politics that will revolve around the selection of a candidate to fly the party’s flag will certainly revolve around an experienced young man from Ibesikpo Asutan, Mr. Ide Owodiong-Idemeko, a man no one could be indifferent to. He stands tall for the Uyo Senatorial Race.

For many who may not know Ide Owodiong-Idemeko, he is an accomplished and proven Human Resources Manager, Political Scientist, Administrator, Business Manager, Change Agent, Project Manager, Community Service Leader and Advocate.  He holds a B.Sc. degree in Political Science & Public Administration (1987) from the University of Cross River State (now University of Uyo), and a M.Sc. degree in Comparative Politics (1991) from the University of Ibadan. In both instances he graduated top of the class with distinction in thesis. He is an alumnus of the PeopleSoft University, Reading, UK, Insead School of Business, Fontainebleau – Paris, France and Thunderbird School of Global Management, Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He is also a Chartered Human Resources Practitioner with the Grade of Fellow, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPMN) since 2012 and currently, the Institute’s Chairman, Strategic Planning & Implementation Committee and Member, Governing Council.

Ide possesses over 26 years of experience in the field of Human Resources Management, of which 17+ years has been at Supervisory and Senior Managerial level, and has acquired extensive work experience in the Nigerian Oil and Gas industry, and across many countries and regions of the world including, Europe, Middle-East, North America and South America. He has had the privilege of holding several Board appointments including, Vice-Chairman and later Chairman of the Football Management Board of the defunct, Pegasus Football Club, Eket, Nigeria; Representative of Convocation to the Governing Council, University of Uyo, Uyo, Nigeria (1998-2001); Member, Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (2005 & 2018); and Chairman, Board of Governors (later Board of Trustees) of the Pegasus School, Eket, Nigeria (2003-2007).

His service to community has been severally acknowledged and recognized by different groups and bodies.
