The Personal Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Marketing and Brand Management Mrs Josephine Bassey on Monday led a team of INEC officials to her Ward in Nsit Atai to ease the stress faced by her people during the voters registration exercise.
Mrs Bassey led the team to her village Idikpa Ikot Ntuen (Ward 5) in the early hours of Monday stating that it became necessary for the exercise to take place in her ward because of the long distance to the Council Headquarters for registration, adding that she took up the responsibility of bringing the INEC officials as a way giving back to her people for their prayers and well wishes.
” I want to say that I deemed it necessary to mobilize INEC staffs down to this place for voters registration because there was only one registration point in this ward which is the council headquarters and it is far away from here and the stress of going down there was too much and this discouraged them, so I had to intervene as my own way of giving back to my people for their prayers and good wishes” she added.
The registration exercise which will continue on Wednesday, took place at Idikpa Ikot Ntuen Village Hall and it witnessed a good turnout to the satisfaction of Mrs Bassey who said she still expects more on the second day adding that with their PVC’s they will have a say on who they give their mandate.
” I am satisfied with the turnout so far I must say its encouraging and I expect to see more on Wednesday because with their PVC’s they are the ones to decide who represents them at all levels of governance”.
Mrs Josephine Bassey also revealed that the registration exercise will also help in collating data which will help create a database for Akwa Ibom State.
She further expressed optimism that her boss, Governor Udom Emmanuel will be victorious come 2019 because of his positive impact in the state so far adding that Nsit Atai will vote PDP as always.” I am optimistic that come 2019 His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel will be reelected into office because of his giant strides and we in Nsit Atai as always will vote PDP”
Present during the exercise was the Village Head Chief Dominic Bassey who thanked Mrs Bassey for her intervention and further appealed to his people to be of good conduct and provide the needed support to ensure the success of the exercise
In a chat with a cross section of the villagers, the decision to provide an alternative registration center by the Governor’s aide is a welcome development and comes as a relief to them because of the risk and stress involved in moving all the way to the council headquarters.
