2019 AUDIT/ACCOUNT REPORT: A’IBOM ASSEMBLY COMMENCES INVESTIGATION

As part of measures to ensure accountability and transparency in the state financial records, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, through its Ad-Hoc Committee, has commenced investigation into the alleged ‘faulty 2019 Audit/Accounts Report of the State Government.’

The Sir Udo Kierian Akpan-led ad-hoc Committee, which met on Monday at the Conference Room of the Assembly, cross-examined members of the State Executive Council over the discrepancies in the 2019 Audit/Account Report.

Briefing newsmen, Secretary of the Committee and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Barrister Aniefiok Dennis Akpan, said “this Ad-Hoc Committee is guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Committee met today and cross-examined Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem; Commissioner for Special Duties, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh; Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ini Ememobong; Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Nsikak Linus Nkan; State Accountant General, Pastor Uwem Andrew-Essien; the Permanent Secretary in the Governor’s Office, Nathaniel Adiakpan, and State Auditor General, Mr. Monday Daniel Akpan.”

“During the meeting, issues were raised, questions were asked and answers were provided. The Committee has also requested for all necessary documents regarding the audit reports,” he said.

Barrister Akpan assured the public of the Committee’s commitment to ensure no stone is left unturned during the investigation, maintaining that “the Committee shall be thorough, fair and just in order to deliver on the mandate impose on us by the people of Akwa Ibom State.”

Other members of the Committee are the Deputy Speaker of the House, Princess Felicia Bassey, Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Rt. Hon. Uduak Odudoh, and Chairman of the House Committee on Public Account, Dr Charity Ido.
