2017 UNITY TOURNAMENT: ALL HAIL NTO ABATAKURE FC

The Ikot Udoe Six-Aside 2017 Unity Football Tournament which was one of the events rolled out by the Supervisor for Youth and Sports in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Prince Samuel Ukut, through the Ikot Udoe Youth Association was played at the pitch of the newly Government approved Technical College, Ikot Udoe, Ikot Ekpene Local Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The event, which was kicked off by the Political Leader of Amayam Clan, Very Rev. (Dr) Otuekong Ukut at the opening, had people from within and outside Ikot Ekpene trooped into Ikot Udoe to show solidarity and support as Nto Udoukut Played against Nto Ikonoh.

The final match played yesterday, which saw Nto Abatakure team captained by a son of Nto Udo Ukut emerged as winner in a tightly contested tournament, was witnessed and supported by top dignitaries including the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Dr. Nse Essien, Very Rev. (Dr) Otuekong Ukut, former representative of Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and currently Commissioner 1 in the Local Government Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Otuekong Nsikak Ekong, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council, Hon. David Umanah, Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ministerial Direct Labour Coordinating Committee, Hon. Prince Sampson Idiong; the Youth Leader of the Ikot Ekpene Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Comrade Lawrence Isang; the Clan Head of Amayam, His Highness Akuku Okon Ukut among others.

Speaking, the Science and Technology Commissioner who kicked off the match to mark the closing ceremony of the tournament, commended the Supervisor for Youth and Sports for his strive to deepen the bond of unity in Ikot Ekpene through football, adding that “though there will emerge a winner, but the idea behind is that there is neither a victor nor a vanquish but the sense of one purpose; harmony; togetherness; strength and love.”

He stressed to the people what peace, unity and togetherness can bring by saying “it is for the peace, love and a high bond of unity that exist in your family that you have enjoyed this football match from the opening to the closing.”

Dr Essien implored all the participating teams and their supporters to keep sustaining the peace, love and bond of unity in appreciation of the superlative performance of the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and made donation in support of the tournament.

Also speaking, the former Assemblyman said “nothing brings people together like football. I have discovered many talents here today, and I want to assure you that they will be picked and supported for higher football career.” He urged the organizer of the tournament to keep the pace and stay abreast with development in the state.

Very Rev. (Dr) Otuekong Ukut, while presenting cash prizes to the participating teams, said the essence of the tournament was beyond seeing a winner emerge but to encourage sportsmanship, love, unity, harmony among the enlarge Ikot Udoe family.
He said the role of family cannot be overemphasized in state and nation building, adding that “development and progress will thrive in our society when a healthy relationship is cultivated in the family.”

Very Rev. Ukut charged the youths to sustain the unity and love they have exuded and promised to always give his support and leadership whenever he is needed.
Others who spoke, including the PDP Youth Leader and Clan Head, commended the organizer, Prince Samuel Ukut for his show of love, sense of unity and appealed to participants to take advantage of ongoing voter’s registration and National Identity Card exercise and get themselves enrolled.

The match started around 5:12 pm and was one of the interesting ones being played in recent times in Ikot Ekpene.
Cash prices were also given to the officials of the tournament as well as participating teams which included Nto Abatakure, Nto Udoukut, Nto Ukpe, Nto Udoinyang, Nto UdoUkwak and Nto Ikonoh.
