Etido Inyang (3)
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Special Duties, Engr. Etido Inyang has lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel on his industrialization zeal, describing his passion as ‘clear and remarkable’. The commissioner who enjoined all Akwa Ibom people irrespective of political inclination to support the industrialization drive of the present administration, said such solidarity, is in the general interest of the state and will quicken the blossoming of dividends from the present administration.

He spoke when members of Akwa Ibom Elderly Citizens Assembly (AKECA) paid him a solidarity visit in his office recently. Engr. Inyang who noted that elders have the responsibility of giving sound advice and a sense of direction in any society, opined that the coming together of senior citizens to suggest and offer direction collectively, is more of an act of love and patriotism. He hailed the formation of the group.

Pledging his firm support to the Assembly, Inyang charged its members to contribute their wealth of experience to the uplift of the Akwa Ibom society and offer progressive advice to government. He described Governor Emmanuel as a “listening leader” and one who appreciates constructive debates, and re-affirmed the capacity and competence of the governor to lead Akwa Ibom to an enviable height.

Earlier, in an address, the National President of AKECA, Obong Ememobong Essien, JP, said the body is constituted with credible men and women from different professional background and known accomplishments who, despite their advanced age, still have the energy and passion to contribute to the growth of Akwa Ibom.

The president stressed that the Assembly is non-political and non-religious, and with a non restrictive membership except on age basis that cuts through the three senatorial districts. The age qualification is sixty. AKECA, according to him is a registered group and one that looks beyond names but works for an equitable society “where everyone irrespective of age, gender, educational attainment is embraced and encouraged to participate in its development process with equal opportunity.”

Obong Essien said the body was in the office to formally introduce the Assembly to him, and intimate him of plans to publicly unveil it. He announced the investiture of the title, “Unwana AKECA” on the commissioner in recognition and appreciation of his noble deeds and humanitarian disposition.

In his remark, the National Secretary of the group, Dr. Gabriel Ukott, and the Assistant Secretary, Elder Edet Udosen, both thanked the Special Duties Commissioner for his warm disposition and prayed for God’s sustenance upon him in his retired age.
