COMMISSIONERS, MEDIA PRACTITIONERS HAIL UKO UMOH

…ADVOCATE MORE SUPPORT TO JOURNALISTS
Commissioner for Information Mr. Aniekan Umanah, his counterpart in Ministry of Justice Barr Nwoko, Finance Commissioner Mr. Akan Okon together with top media practitioners in Akwa Ibom, have commended the initiative of Special Assistant to Governor on Local Media Mr. Uko Umoh, to donate work tools to 14 chapels of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ ,Akwa Ibom State chapter.
Speaking at a media parley organised by office of the Special Assistant to Governor on Local Media at the Judiciary multi-purpose hall Uyo, the Commissioner for Information Mr. Aniekan Umanah thanked Uko Umoh for such idea, noting that Governor Udom Emmanuel is running an all-inclusive government.
He urged journalists to always engage in developmental journalism and avoid breaking news that will break the society.
Also speaking, the Finance Commissioner Mr. Akan Okon thanked the SA on local media and appealed to journalists to always see themselves as part and parcel of the society.
In his words, the Commissioner for Justice Barr. Nwoko commended Uko Umoh for creating an interface for media and government to relate, and urged media practitioners to criticize government constructively.
In his reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Mr. Ekerete Udoh, applauded Mr. Uko Umoh, and wished that the interaction created by the SA on Local Media will open a new relationship between government and the media.
The NUJ chairman Elder Patrick Albert thanked Mr. Uko Umoh for remembering journalists in a critical time like this, adding that the desire to develop this state rests in the hands of great writers.
In their goodwill messages, the Chairmen of Consolidated Chapel and Correspondents Chapel thanked Uko Umoh for extending the gesture to both local and national papers and appealed to Governor Udom Emmanuel to empower him to do more.
Earlier in his opening remark, the Special Assistant to Governor on Local Media Mr. Uko Umoh thanked the State Governor for seeing the need to encourage journalism profession in the state and promised a robust synergy between the media community and government.
The highpoint of the occasion was the donation of laptops and printers to all the 14 chapels of NUJ in the state.
